PE "Serbian Railways" and the European Investment Bank have signed the Financing Agreement, by which this international financial institution approved loan amounting to 80 million EUR to Serbian Railways. The guarantee for this loan was given by the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

PE "Serbian Railways" will use these funds for reconstruction and modernization of tracks on the priority railway lines in Serbia, along the Pan-European railway corridor X.

The launching of the first tender under the EIB loan, for performing of the construction works on the reconstruction and modernization of the section Batajnica – Golubinci of the railway line Beograd – Šid – Croatian border, can be expected within the period of 60 days.

The project documentation envisages the following construction works:

- reconstruction of substructure and superstructure of open double-track line from Batajnica to Nova Pazova, in the length of 5,6 km;
- reconstruction of the substructure and superstructure of station tracks in Stara Pazova and Nova Pazova stations;
- construction of new right track (substructure and superstructure), from Stara Pazova station to Golubinci station, in the length of 7,4 km;
- construction of new subway in Nova Pazova station, and of adequate platforms;
- reconstruction of the existing subway in Stara Pazova station, along with the construction of platforms;
- construction of new single-track bridge on Stara Pazova - Golubinci section;

In addition to the construction works, the following electrical works are also envisaged:

- reconstruction of the existing overhead contact line from Batajnica to Stara Pazova, and construction of a new one for Stara Pazova -  Golubinci section;
- modernization of SS and TT equipment;

for which the separate tender documentation shall be published subsequently.

The envisaged construction works are divided into the following groups of works:

1. substructure and superstructure,
2. hydro-technical works,
3. reconstruction of the existing culverts,
4. engineering structures,
5. bridges,
6. architectural structures,
7. regulation of traffic in the area of level crossings, during the performing of works.

Electrical works are divided into the following groups of works:

1. works on overhead contact line
2. works on SS equipment
3. works on TT equipment

The approximate value of performing of all the above stated works is EUR 25 million.

When it comes to the eligibility for submission of tenders, the invitation for tenders shall be open for contractors from any country.

The possible commencement of the works is envisaged for the end of the year 2007.
